I know "onion straws" too, from Morristown, NJ.  Not "a cut of pizza" though.

A _cut_, rather than a _slice_, of pizza

_straws_ "small, fried onion *slices* used as garnish for a sandwich,"
different from large, fried onion *rings* as a side-order
