I probably have access to The Vogue Archive, but only if I go to a Harvard Library. My next visit will be in a week or two. As described by Harvard, quoting the Web site:
"The Vogue Archive contains the entire run of Vogue magazine (US edition), from the first issue in 1892 to the current month, reproduced in high-resolution color page images. Every page, advertisement, cover and fold-out has been included, with rich indexing enabling you to find images by garment type, designer and brand names."--Web site.

Subject: [ADS-L] Request help with Vogue 1916 cite for "Brevity is the soul of lingerie"
Dorothy Parker once quipped "Brevity is the soul of lingerie".
Apparently, she wrote the phrase in a caption in the fashion magazine
"Vogue", and I am trying to verify the accuracy of a citation in
October 1916.
Do you have access to the ProQuest: The Vogue Archive? If you do I
hope you will be willing to perform a quick search for the phrase and
send to me a pertinent PDF. Alternatively, you may have access to
microfilm or bound copies of "Vogue" in 1916.
I have checked Google Books and HathiTrust, but the coverage of the
early years of "Vogue" is very poor. Issues in 1916 are in the public
domain, but, unhappily, I have not been able to find scans online.
Here are the details for the citation under investigation:
Date: October 1, 1916
Periodical: Vogue
Article: Pattern Service

Publisher: Conde Nast, New York
[Begin excerpt]
>From these foundations of the autumn wardrobe, one may learn that
brevity is the soul of lingerie.
[End excerpt]
It would be helpful to see the surrounding context for the quotation.
