...where we also learn, from a later cite (the first two being from classic early 90s TV shows, "In Living Color" (1991) and "Beavis and Butthead" (1993)), that the plural of this particular loaf is regularized:
"Birds...pinch loafs on people"
JL assures us that we can find that one by pulling a copy of the unpublished 1994 edition of the Ensucklopedia down from our shelf. At least the loafs pinched in the latter case are small ones--a case where half a loaf is better than one.
