Nominees for Name of the Year still being sought

This is just a short message to let you know that the American Name Society (ANS) is still taking nominations for the 2015 Winners of the Name of the Year Vote. As with the ADS, the ANS holds elections for several different categories. For 2015, there are 5 different name categories that are up for election: 1.) Fictional Names (Characteronyms); 2.) Personal Names (Anthroponyms); 3.) Place Names (Toponyms); 4.) Brand/Product Names; and 5.) the Grand Name of the Year. For the year 2014, the winners in these five respective categories were Elsa, Malala, Ferguson, Uber, and Ferguson. For more on winners from years past, see

http://www.americannamesociety.org/category/name-of-the-year/

If you would like to nominate a name for one or all of these categories, just send an email to Professor C. Evans <cevans at bellevue.edu> Please be sure to include a brief explanation detailing why you think your onomastic nominee is a winner. All submissions will be judged on the following criteria: 1.) the degree of linguistic innovation; 2.) the perceived linguistic influence of the name on other words in the lexicon; and 3.) the ability of the name to capture national attention for the year 2015.

Interested members of the ADS are warmly welcome to take part in the ANS debate and voting which will are scheduled to take place at the LSA conference at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Washington, D.C., on Friday, January 8th, from 12:00 to 1:00 in Salon 14.
