What follows comes about 15 years after the earliest examples we have
of this other-numbered variant of "the whole nine yards," but it's
still pretty early, and from Missouri, so I have to show you.

Rumor says Lon Lay gets more letters than anyone on the line.  How
about it, Lon?  Some say "daisies won't tell;" we say daisies will
tell.  We heard the whole six yards -- where did you lose your letter?
