"Our friends Jaz and Zack _did the thang_. Beautiful wedding."
"Get married" is the old meaning of this phrase, dating from at least WWII.
There's no example in GBooks earlier than 1981, with a different meaning.
Google has "about 224 results," each with a different meaning. The UD,
which has only _do the th i ng_, not _th a ng_, from '05, also with a
different meaning.
Of course, there's no difference in pronunciation between ing/ink and
ang/ank.
