Jon's reference is clear, since he said "in a transcription". But if it's not clear whether the subject is audio or printed text, do we need separate verbs -- "bleep" vs. ?

Elsewhen, a few days ago CNN bleeped "son of a bitch" in a transcription of
Gov. LePage's rant, replacing it with the words "[obscene term]."
Of course, they did the same for "cocksucker." What's TIME/ComCen's policy
on that one?
