And there is no how or why slaves - whether literally African or merely of
African descent - *could* have figured in it. What, exactly, would the
unescaped slaves still in the hands of their American owners have been
doing during the battle, other than trying to escape, that could possibly
have engaged the attention of FSK? And what is the possibility that he
would have praised them for such a treacherous action that probably would
have been interpreted, at best, as "cowardice in the face of the enemy"?
