Apparently, this is what is said, today, with the troops using M-16’s
instead of M-1’s in Basic Training:

"Is the left ready? The left is ready. Is the right ready? The right is
ready. Is there anyone downrange? Is there anyone downrange? Ready on the
firing line! Shooters, _lock one 20-round magazine and load one round! Scan
your sectors! Commence firing!”

Undoubtedly, in combat, platoon leaders would still say simply, “Lock ’n’
load!”
