I have nothing to add about the origin of "cornhole" as the name of the game, but last year I wrote about the origins of the bean bag-toss game "faba baga".

"Faba" appears to be based on "fava", Italian for bean - so, "bean-a baga".
The inventor of the game, curiously enough, had close family ties to one of George Washington's closest aides, and to Franklin Roosevelt.
