I was looking for something in a database of digitized 18th century
newspapers when I came upon a story captioned "Adverbs from the West
Indies." I'd always wondered where our adverbs came from, so I naturally
opened the story with great anticipation. Turns out, the caption really
read "Advices from the West Indies."
Oh, well.
