World Wide Words was one [that's five consecutive words beginning with the w sound!] of the most outstanding websites on English lexicology. Michael has been a very gracious and astute commentator throughout its existence. I hope he will continue to participate on ADS-L so that we do not lose his welcome voice there.

Subject: Closure of World Wide Words
I have decided to discontinue writing World Wide Words, though the website
will continue as an archive, as will the associated dictionary of affixes
site. A message to subscribers yesterday (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__wwwords.org_final&d=DwICAg&c=-dg2m7zWuuDZ0MUcV7Sdqw&r=NvsW-OhBbzxE92nK31T2wnmV21_Bx7bPCKzIsk5T4FQ&m=0Gpbslcja85xHkF73OMahbNQIYelrHO3QntWWKo2Q14&s=eLcunBwgD1iBXSoONX9Ipmtqj3giVBX9q9qhrbQZ_BY&e= ) gives
the background to the decision.
Down the years, the discussions and research findings by members of ADS
have been an indispensable source of information, support and
encouragement. Thank you all.
