[Ads-l] Executive producers and such

That's a good article on the movies, but the terms often mean something different in television. In TV, the producers are often the writers, and the executive producer is the "show-runner," the person overseeing the day-to-day production. The creator of the series, who may or may not be show-runner, will typically have an executive-producer title too.

In episodic TV, the director has less creative control. Directors are responsible for individual episodes, which must conform to the overall artistic vision of the creator and/or show-runner.

I seem to remember there was a discussion a while back about the various producer and executive-producer roles in the movies. The Straight Dope has an article today that explains quite a lot. http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/3334/what-do-movie-production-credits-mean?
