Like Orwell and others, Blow confounds "degradation of the language" with
ineptness, confusion, ignorance, shallowness of thought, etc.

These are not linguistic issues.

If you don't believe me, look at the President's remarks yesterday on
Jackson and Obama.

And cf. his current fluency of thought with that in this 1987 interview
blasting Reagan, irrespective of the familiar content:
