The "new" spoken norm is at least as old in speech as I am and I'm about to
enter my ninetieth decade, in a couple of days - or should that be, "in a
couple days." Maybe it was formerly peculiar to BE/SE or something, since,
to me, it's by no means "new" and the only thing peculiar about it is that
some people think that there's something peculiar about it.
