Is this about _cold_ or about _cold storage_?

FWIW, certain articles of winter clothing - furs, for example - were/are?
kept, literally, in "cold storage" in refrigerated warehouses over the
course of long periods of warm weather, e.g. from late spring to early
fall, when there was no use for them.

"Cold storage" has also long been in use in commercial agriculture.

In one room we found three thousand five hundred boxes of lemons, which
have been stored for next summer's use. This fruit has been in _cold
storage_ from two to six weeks ...

The above-cited use of "cold storage" appears to be an extension of the
kinds of uses of "cold storage" cited here.
