The writer spent his youth in "southwest Ohio."

"Extremism" gets thrown around as an accusation so much, these days, that
asserting it as a categorical basis to claim that one should automatically
be against something seems to be semantically spurious, anymore.

You don't often find "these days" and positive "anymore" in the same
sentence.
