Am starting to feel from the depths of memory that this use of "No!" has
long been common among standup comedians, though I can't prove it with exx.
and don't know why it should be so.
Well, here's one example:
INSULT COMIC: I'd love to beat Oprah. I know her *weakness.*
AUDIENCE: [Cheers].
COMIC: No, no. I know her weakness.
