Here is "blow your jets" and "try not to blow your jets" in 1952.

There are indications that a whole new space vocabulary will begin
making inroads in St. Louis shortly. "Smokin rocket!" for the benefit
of backward adults, means "Gee whiz." "Blast off!" means "scram." To
"blow your jets" is to go off your rocker and a "space rat" is a bad
guy. On the east and west coasts this lingo is said to be already in
full flower.
