I din't mean to imply that "Baba", simply meaning grandmother/parent, was new; nor any other established uses of "Baba" (Baba Ganoush, Baba O'Reilly, Barbara Ann, etc.).

Just that "Baba", as specifically applied to gender-nonconforming parents (presumably in lieu of "Dada," "Mama," "Papa", etc.) is something I haven't run across before.
