Well, actually the point is that if you look at what he actually said, he did say something true, albeit inadvertently:

We are the only country in the world where a person comes in and has a baby, and the baby is essentially *a citizen of the United States*. Jus soli does not allow those babies born in Canada or Ecuador to qualify as citizens of the U.S.
