Well, that’s the only way I’ve ever heard it pronounced, so I guess I knew. In principle, I suppose the first syllable could have been pronounced to rhyme with “plug” or with “Moog”; after all, Jack Klugman pronounced his name as /kl^gm at n/ rather than /klUgm at n/, but I’ve only ever heard it as /krUgm at n/.
