Maybe a combo of the fact that “abashedly” (as the opposite of “unabashedly”) doesn’t exist and the fact that the first syllable of “abashedly” might be processed as a reduced “un”? Or, I know--as the Greek alpha privative prefix as in “atypical” or “amoral”—although that might have led to the pronunciation /'ebaeS at dli/ (‘in a manner supportive of, without bashing’).
