Oops. Thank you, Ben.
Here's another (apparently) early-ish use.
In a letter in September, 1835, Mary Austin Holley received a letter from her brother Henry, here paraphrased, but with a quote presumably from the letter (starting on p. 58):

<begin> In September, he was sure that in a year every league of [/p. 59] land they held in "cahoots" would be worth $40,000; in November, when Austin was before Bexar with "4,000 armed men and 6 pieces of cannon" and prospect of success seemed assured, he looked forward to the time when, the war over, business would recommence and wealthy men would begin to invest in Texas lands.<end>

Letters of an Early American Traveller: Mary Austin Holley, Her Life and Works, 1784-1846, by Mattie Austin Hatcher (Dallas TX, 1933).

Here's the original article from the Augusta Chronicle:

I ha'nt read newspapers for nothing -- Gin'ral Government and the
ministration are going in _cahoot_ to undermine and overrule the
undertakings of the free People of Georgia.

I discussed this citation at length on Episode #77 of the podcast Lexicon
Valley (Jan. 10, 2016), all about the history of "in cahoots."
