1779 _Edinburgh Eighth-Day Magazine_ I. 332 (Eighteenth Century Collections Online)  My original name is _Hysteron Proteron_, which in the English language signifies _putting the cart before the horse_; a most eligible and most successful method, as every man of sound sense and loyalty, who is not infected with Americanism and a spirit of rebellion against the _powers that be_, must readily own.
