I received a question recently regarding my post here on the Native Black
American *jaav(-like)* and *jaab(-like)* ‘very’, ‘too’ vs. the Native Black
American *jaav* ‘play with', ‘tease'.


To ensure there is no ambiguity or confusion of these homonyms (as
suggested by the email I received), I decided to update the article on
Fulfulde-derived Africanisms in Native Black American Language to include
the former Mandinka-derived adverb, along with (what was supposed to be
forthcoming research on) the Kikongo-derived Native Black American homonym
*jaav* ‘crazy', 'stupid’, 'idiotic’, 'pathetic', 'miserable', ‘nonsense’.
