To be clear, the Resource Exchange does not apply these minimums. You just need to have a Wikipedia account, with email enabled, and to know enough about editing Wikipedia to write a plausible request. You also need to have a particular resource in mind, so the Resource Exchange doesn't work if, say, you want to search newspaper databases for antedatings of a particular term.

If you've had a Wikipedia account for six months or more but don't have 500 edits, you could get there really fast by just correcting typos in Wikipedia articles. Of course, if you're not otherwise interested in editing Wikipedia, I don't claim that that would be the most effective way to get access to these resources.

Okay, thanks. I have a little experience editing wikipedia*, but nowhere near this much.

----

It's pretty straightforward. They are looking for editors who have some level of experience and current activity on Wikipedia. Here are the default requirements:

500+ edits
6+ months editing
10+ edits in the last month
No active blocks

Wikipedia also has a Resource Exchange, where Wikipedia editors can request specific sources (journal articles, newspaper stories, etc.), Caution-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Resource_Exchange/Resource_Request<Caution-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Resource_Exchange/Resource_Request>. The request is supposed to be specifically to edit a Wikipedia article, but there is no rule preventing you from using it for other purposes as well.

External Email - Think Before You Click

A couple of months back, Stanton McCandish mentioned Wikipedia's program to let members
access subscription journals and databases.

Does anyone here have experience with it? Any comments? Is it straightforward to use?

Anyway, I'm hoping there's a good writeup about this stuff in a journal
somewhere. I should have full-text access to several journal sites again
soon through Wikipedia's GLAM program (Caution-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:LIBRARY<Caution-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:LIBRARY><Caution-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:LIBRARY<Caution-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:LIBRARY>> -
worth checking out if you're a regular editor there but do not have ready access to
paywalled journal-search stuff).
