New to me though it seems to have been in use as a “pun” before. Op-ed from
S. E. Cupp of the Tribune Content agency “Couric is a Cautionary Tale”

Why, for example, would she needlessly bash Deborah Norville, whom Couric
replaced at the “Today” show?

Norville, herself blind-sighted by the digs, told another newspaper, “I’m
really too stunned and, frankly, hurt to comment.”
