"base on balls" appears to be a bit later; not sure why the 1875 OED cite
is bracketed, though:

[1875    Inter Ocean (Chicago) 28 Aug. 3/5   An error of judgement by
Devlin, who gave Fisler his base on balls.]

Maybe the broader context casts doubt on its relevance. Otherwise, there's
an unbracketed cite from 1891, same year as the listed first cite for
"walk".
