Yale operates an undergraduate residential college system, and each
college has a name. As a graduate student, I was never part of this
system. I stayed in the Hall of Graduate Studies, initially; next, I
moved off campus.

The name of Calhoun College was changed to Grace Murray Hopper
College. Hopper was a pioneering computer scientist who received her
mathematics doctorate from Yale. John C. Calhoun was a slavery
advocate, and he has been, in a sense, cancelled by Yale. A change in
the name of the university itself is unlikely, for now. Yale has
developed "Principles on Renaming" that are discussed in the following
