Great work Bill and Fred. The 1951 citation is intriguing because
traditionally John McCarthy has received credit for naming the field
of artificial intelligence. The OED has this citation:
1955 J. McCarthy et al. 31 Aug. (title) A proposal for the
Dartmouth summer research project on artificial intelligence.
I guess McCarthy should still receive credit for naming the field, but
E. Hamilton first applied the term to a fictional robot.
