My favorite fun "fart" fact to trot out in class is the fact that the
Proto-Indo-European source of "fart", Fr. "péter" (as in "hoist on one's
own petard"), et al. can be straightforwardly reconstructed as the
onomatopoeic *prd.  A nice double application of Grimm's Law too.
