Ah, July. Now that makes sense; several months after the delivery (and
widely circulated draft) of the William James lectures. Or, as you suggest,
maybe Hare heard Grice use the term in an earlier presentation. (He
actually defined and exemplified the notions of conversational and
conventional implicatures in a 1961 paper but without using the terms.)
 Grice was so notorious for not publishing his work that in the editors of
a festschrift for him, Richard Grandy and Richard Warner, included a
bibliography of his publications across from a slightly longer list of his
"unpublications".
