Thanks for this information, Dave.  But are you sure that the English word "radium" appears in July 1898?  The article you link to says it was first used in January 1899.

I've got it a bit earlier, from July 1898. I haven't revised this entry yet, and I suppose there are earlier uses to be found.

radium (OED 1899)

1898 _San Francisco Chronicle_ 28 Dec. 1/3 (Newspapers.com) Dr. Becquerel has announced to the Academy of Sciences the discovery of a new chemical substance which has close affinity to barium. Its discovereres, MM. Curie and Bremona, have named it radium.
