1877 O. C. Marsh "A New Order of Extinct Reptilia (Stegosauria) from the Jurassic of the Rocky Mountains" American Journal of Science vol. XIV No. 84 Dec 513

The characters already determined point to affinities with the Dinosaurs, Plesiosaurs, and more remotely with the Chelonians, and indicate a new order, which may be termed Stegosauria, from the typical genus here described. Stegosaurs armatus, gen. et sp. nov.

1880 San Francisco Evening Bulletin 3 May 4/3

Stegosaurus was found to have a brain very much smaller tha the crocodile, and Dinosaurs agreed essentially in the same feature.

Stegosaurus (OED 1892)

1880 _Spirit of Kansas_ 26 May 1 / 4 (Newspapers.com) The smallest brain of any vertebrate land animal, in proportion to its size, appears to be that of Stegosaurus, a genus of extinct reptiles of gigantic size whose remains occur in Colorado and Wyoming, and have recently been described by Professor O. C. Marsh, of Yale college.
