Thanks, Bill, for the correction.

I do almost always look at the page image to verify publication title, date, and pagination, rather than trusting the metadata of the database.  The potential for errors in dating was driven home to me recently.  While playing around with Google News Archive, I came up with a newspaper occurrence of the term "jazz orchestra" with a 1912 date.  This would be a major discovery in the history of jazz, and the page image clearly showed "September 24, 1912" on the front page.  Seemingly this was a slam-dunk, but, because of my dictum that "if it's too good to be true, it's probably not true," I studied any other evidence I could glean from the page image and eventually reluctantly concluded that the newspaper itself had misdated itself.  The real date seems to have been 1921.

Unfortunately, the metadata from Newspapers.com on Fred's 1889 cite below is wrong.  The actual date of the cite, from the page image, is Jan 29 1896.



1889 O. C. Marsh "Notice of Gigantic Horned Dinosauria from the Cretaceous" in The American Journal of Science, Series 3, Vol 38, No. 224 Aug. 174

It represents a genus distinct from the type of the family, which may be called Triceratops.

1889 _Knoxville Daily Journal_ 13 Jan. 8 (Newspapers.com)  The mouth of the triceratops was protected by a horny beak.
