1891 Brooklyn Daily Eagle (Oct. 28) 8: He spoke in German, with a strong
Brooklyn accent.
The accent in question was brought to national attention as a working-class
Lower East Side accent by Edward W. Townsend in his stories of "Chimmie
Fadden" (1895).
More specifically:
1914 Franklin P. Adams, in _N. Y. Tribune_ (Oct. 22) 6: An unneutral
contrib suggests that the Kaiser is the potentate who took the joy out of
Joymany.
