From a Times report this morning on the unfolding speakership battle:


Speaker Kevin McCarthy said after the House G.O.P. meeting that he plans to rip the Band-aid off and bring the motion to vacate this afternoon. “Matt has planned this all along. It didn’t matter what we transpired,” McCarthy said to reporters.

I haven’t noticed this before; not sure if there’s anything in the files on this use.  AHD has this for transitive “transpire”:

'To give off (vapor) through the stomata of plant tissue’

I suspect that’s not what Speaker McCarthy had in mind, although youneverknow.
