While antedating the musical term "calypso," I looked at the Dictionary of the English/Creole of Trinidad & Tobago.  This is an astonishingly thorough volume, over 1000 pages long, and the pages are very large.  There are many, many dated citations.  I would have thought that two islands with a population of a little over 1,000,000 could not generate that much linguistic material.
