1897 Cairns (Queensland, Austr.) Post 9 Sept. 3/1 (Newspapers.com)  It is perhaps almost better to hear that the initiative in the squeezing process when applied is to be taken, not by the "splendid isolationist," our England, but by Russia.

1898 San Juan Islander (Friday Harbor, Wash.) 7 July 2/1 (Newspapers.com)  We have a lot of alarmists and isolationists in the country who oppose the acquisition of important strategic and commercial points in the Pacific.
