Previously (minding my p's and q's?), I proposed that phiz (clipped from physiognomy)
and quiz, early on, appeared together, because the latter originally meant
a queer phiz.

Speaking, more or less, of almost certainly irrelevant (but who knows) early texts, Pizarro in Peru fought against Quiz quiz (or Quizquiz).
