1884 _Daily New Era_ (Lancaster, Pa.) (Oct. 14) 1 (Newspapers.com):
Dearborn Mountain, Montana, Oct. 2, 1884...It seems natural and customary
for a certain class of [cowboys] to use the most outlandish and incongruous
words and phrases. Upon one occasion the writer heard a dashing young
blood...use the following amazing language: "That bay quadruped of mine is
quite expizoodient in extracting bovines from the rodaron (round-up)."
Educated ex-cowpoke Philip A. Rollins (1869-1950) makes a similar general
observation (without "expizoodient") in _The Cowboy_ (N.Y.: Scribner, 1922).
