AHN has only September 11, 1858, from the Weekly Wisconsin Patriot.
Until I searched for negro NEAR13 spirituals, which gave me August 31,
1858, from the Charleston Mercury. And it's the exact phrase, too.
I tried substituting colored, black, african and nigger for negro and came
up with nothing.
