As it happens, today's mail brought me "Long Lost Blues", a book by Peter C
Muir, from 2010. "Baby Seals Blues" is discussed on p. 142, and in a long
note on pp. 235-36, along with "Dallas Blues". Hart A. Wand, the writer
of "Dallas Blues", was interviewed for a book published in the 1950s --
which itself is around the house, somewhere. Wand claimed that his blues
was published in March, 1912, before "Baby Seals Blues". Muir gives
reasons to doubt the claim, which would suggest that "Baby Seals Blues" was
published in April of that year or not much later.
