Today NPR posted and aired an item on the word "dude" for which I was one of the people interviewed. My thanks to NPR and the reporter, Kat Lonsdorf, for their interest in the subject.

The article mentions a book that I co-authored in 2022 with independent scholars Barry Popik and Peter Reitan: Origin of the Term "Dude." Both are extraordinary researchers.

Btw, OED3 (online) gives a supposed 1877 attestation
of "dude," but this is almost certainly a mistake.
