CLUNKY (OED3, adj. 2, 1968)

The OED provides a first definition dating to 1965: "Stupid; inferior. Now
rare." The second definition is the more common one, which they date to
1968: "Awkward, clumsy, ungainly, esp. in design or function".

This citation, from a classified ad, fits the OED's second definition:

1937 STUDEBAKER 4-door Sedan — is a trifle clunky; looks a little sad, but
it runs
