My wife and I are sitting here watching the TV adaptation of Tony Hillerman's Joe Leaphorn mysteries, "Dark Winds".  In an episode set in 1972, one character says, in reference to a man being enamored by a female police officer, that he was "drinking her Kool Aid".   It got by me, but the wife said ""They wouldn't have said that then, would they?"

Jim Jones was 1978, and the OED's first figurative cite is 1981.
