The poet M'Kay ... requested Leon Trotsky to answer a few questions regarding the struggle for emancipation among the negro race.  [Trotsky responds:] The work is not to be carried on in a spirit of negro Chauvinism, which would then merely form a counterpart of white Chauvinism — but in a spirit of solidarity of all exploited without consideration of color.
