[Ads-l] "enemy" = cause?

I have been seeing pop-up ads recently such as "Salty food is not the cause of edema.  Meet the real enemy of edema" where "enemy" seems to mean cause.  (the add points to a magazine article which describes an alleged _treatment_ for edema but a casual reading did not find out anything about the _cause_ of edema, just the treatment.
Is this a trend in advertising, or just a couple of online illiterates?
