1971 Billboard 10 July 30/3 (ProQuest)  The crossover record still occurs with frequency. ... both "Joy to the World" and Brewer and Shipley's "One Toke Over the Line" were doing very well in soul locations.

1972 Broadcasting 28 Feb. 67/1 (ProQuest)  Al Green has not been confined in his success to the R & B charts or black radio. ... with this particular record, Al Green is appealing directly to the pop market and the top-40.
